Rich medal haul by KCP Siddhartha athletes

KCP Siddhartha Adarsh Residential Public School athletes produced a sterling performance by finishing second after Hyderabad in the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) South Zone cluster VII athletic meet that concluded at Davanagere in Karnataka, recently. The school contingent consisting 23 athletes -- 17 boys and six girls -- bagged an impressive 15 gold, two silver and 15 bronze medals in the two-day meet in which more than 140 schools from Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana took part.

Leading the pack was Class X student K. Hari Keerthi, who won the individual championship for under-16 segment in the girls’ category. She won two gold medals in the shot put and discus throw events. “Along with Hari Keerthi, 12 athletes were selected to take apart in the national event which will be held at Raipur in December,” said school Principal S. Chandrasekaran here on Thursday.

In the four relay events held, the boys under-16 and under-19 quartet won gold in the 4x100 metres event while in the same age groups the athletes finished third in the 4x400 metres event. Siddhartha Academy convenor S. Ramakrishna complimented coaches M. Raghavendra Rao and T. Kanaka Ratna Kumari for their efforts in training the athletes for the meet.
