Review meet held on atrocity cases

Officials submit status report

The State government has released ₹65 lakh towards compensation for the victims of various atrocities, including rape, under the Scheduled Castes and the Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Rules, 1995 (Amendment 2016).

Krishna District Collector and Chairman of District Vigilance and Monitoring Committee on Atrocities B. Lakshmikantam on Wednesday reviewed the status of the cases pertaining to atrocities on SC, STs, children and bonded labour here. The police, women and child welfare and revenue department officials submitted their reports on the action taken to prevent atrocities. The police and revenue officials were told to create awareness among the public to utilise the guidelines to get the compensation. According to the police, as many as 119 cases pertaining to the SC and ST atrocities were under trial, while 49 cases were under investigation by the mid-December.

The revenue officials said that at least 26 bonded labour cases under trial in the Vijayawada city.
