May 24, 2014 12:06 am | Updated 12:07 am IST - VIJAYAWADA:

Streets across the city reverberated with “Jai Sri Ram” slogans on Friday as many temples organised special programmes to celebrate Hanuman Jayanti. Right from the strike of dawn, Lord Hanuman temples teemed with visitors and serpentine queues were witnessed on the temple premises in different areas.

Despite scorching heat, many temples buzzed with activity and visitors dressed in traditional attire thronged the temples. Many temples committees provided drinking water, butter milk and arranged tents for the convenience of visitors.

With different academic and competitive examinations being conducted, students turned up in good numbers at temples. Most of them carried their hall tickets and visited the temples early in the day and sought the blessings of the lord before heading to their respective examination centres.

Nearly 6,000 visitors turned up at the temple on Friday and a devotee, Balanagaiah, conducted free food distribution programme on the temple premises. There will be special rituals on Saturday and community lunch would be organised on Sunday from 11 a.m onwards. Later, there will be a car procession of the lord in the evening, said trust chairman M. Venkata Chandra Sudhakar.

The Hindu Dharma Prachara Parishad also organised a special programme in which 2,000 students recited “Hanuman chalisa” at Vishwa Shanti High School premises, Vuyuuru.
