South Central Railway Vijayawada Divisional Railway Manager Pradeep Kumar inaugurated the Sub-Control Room set up by Government Railway Police at Vijayawada railway station on Monday.
As part of formal opening, Mr. Pradeep Kumar operated the public address system in the sub-control room on platforms 8 and 9, in the station.
The Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) hailed the GRP for stepping up security for passengers on platforms and in moving trains.

With the installation of sub-control rooms, police can go to the passengers and enquire about their complaints, he said. Additional DRM S. Subba Rao praised the railway police for the new initiatives in preventing crime.
He assured them of all cooperation in providing safety to passengers.
Passengers can lodge complaints in the Sub-Control Rooms and take receipts. They can also alert the police on robberies, missing luggage, accidents and the police will respond immediately. The cops will alert the staff on duty at the railway police station and the beat constables deployed on platforms through wireless sets, if necessary, he said.

GRP Vijayawada District Superintendent of Railway Police (SRP) Ch. Syam Prasad said that a constable with communication set, receipt book and public addressing system will be deployed at each sub-control room. Similar facility is proposed on Platforms.1, 4, 5, 8 and 10, where heavy rush was identified.
“Instructions have been given to the police to kill the robbers and dacoit gangs who try to loot the passengers in running trains. Civilians can also kill the accused in self-defence when thieves assault them”, said Mr. Syam Prasad.
Vijayawada Divisional Security Commissioner (Railway Protection Force) Ramesh Chandra said the GRP and the RPF would jointly take measures to curb crimes and protect the passengers as well as the railway properties.
