Property tax: revenue officials asked to inspect shops

All irregularities in the fixing of property tax should be regularised before June 5, according to instructions issued by Municipal Commissioner G.S. Panda Das.

A press release from the Municipal Corporation said that the Commissioner issued a stern warning to the Revenue wing officials in a meeting with them on Monday.

The Commissioner told them that the staff should thoroughly inspect shops and godowns and fix proper amount of tax.

He said discrepancies in measurements should be taken into consideration while revising the taxes.

Every bill Collector should submit the monthly list to the office by the fifth of the month, the Commissioner said.

He said in this regard special officer have been appointed in every division and they would inspect two houses every day after the fifth of the month.

And property tax would be fixed on the basis of their report, Mr. Das said.

The Commissioner in a separate meeting expressed strong dissatisfaction at the rate at which garbage was being cleared from the city.

He told the officials that no efforts should be spared to clear the garbage regularly.

The Commissioner took up the delay in clearing of garbage in some areas and asked the officials for an explanation.

He said the clearing of garbage should be done on a priority basis in some areas. He expressed resentment over the delay in the clearing of garbage.

He also checked the garbage transport vehicles at the Singhnagar office.
