Krishna district Collector M. Raghunandan Rao on Sunday said the focus of the Road Safety Week to be launched by the Transport Department on Monday should be on educating people on the need to follow the rulebook while on the road.
Speaking after releasing a CD of a short film ‘Aavedana’, which depicts the horrendous plight of the accident survivors, Mr. Rao said, after viewing the short film, people should understand the importance of exercising caution while on the road. He also complimented the short film unit team members Rajbabu, Kali, and Phanindra Reddy who, he said, had done a wonderful job of effectively portraying the pain and anguish suffered by family members of those who succumb to accidents or survive with scars that last for life time.
He said the department staff must extend their full cooperation for effective implementation of the series of awareness programmes designed as part of the week-long observance.

Deputy Transport Commissioner (DTC), Krishna district, Ch. Shivalingaiah, explained to the Collector the extensive campaign to be undertaken by using ‘prachara rathams’ (mobile publicity vehicles), pamphlets, documentary films, auto-rickshaw rallies, seminars, competitions for students, and free medical camps.
District Rural Development Agency Project Director K. Sivasankar, Regional Transport Officer C.H.V.K. Subbarao and other officials were present.

Explaining the series of awareness activities to be taken up during the week-long period, the DTC said the inaugural would be marked by release of pamphlets on road safety rules, flagging off of the ‘prachara rathams’, and display of a mangled vehicle, besides a medical camp and a photo exhibition.
On Tuesday (January 21) morning, an auto-rickshaw rally would be taken out from the DTC office covering the areas of Police Control Room, Eluru Road, Ramavarappadu junction, and Benz Circle before returning to the DTC office. In the evening (3 p.m. 5 p.m.), a seminar on ‘Road Safety’ would be held at V.R. Siddhartha Engineering College.
On Wednesday (January 22), competitions in slogan-writing and essay-writing would be held for students while on Thursday (January 23) vehicle dealers would take out a rally of new vehicles from DTC office. In the evening, an awareness programme would be held at Maris Stella College.
On Friday (January 24), a medical camp would be conducted in addition to an awareness programme at St. John’s School at Gannavaram. On Saturday (January 25), a walkathon would be organised in the grounds of Indira Gandhi Municipal Stadium and on Sunday (January 26) a medical camp for drivers and an awareness programme for drivers of school buses would be conducted at the Krishna District Lorry Association hall.
