Poll promises: Congress vows to highlight failure of TDP

Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu should recall the letter he wrote to Chief Electoral Officer Bhanwarlal saying that his party would fulfil all promises it made in the party’s election manifesto released on March 31, 2014, Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee president N. Raghuveera Reddy said on Tuesday.

Participating in a dharna organised by the Congress as part of ‘Vanchana Dinam’ being observed by the party to mark the passing of one year after the release of the TDP election manifesto Mr Raghuveera Reddy said Mr. Chandrababu Naidu in a reply to the Chief Electoral Officer said he was Chief Minister for nine years, Opposition leader for 10 years and a gold medallist in economics. And that there could not be a person more competent to fulfil the promises listed in the manifesto of his party.

The PCC chief said most of the 600-odd promises made in the election manifesto of TDP had not been fulfilled and many were not even broached after that.

Unconditional waiver of loans taken by farmers, total waiver of loans extended to DWCRA group members, waiver of loans extended to weavers, earmarking a fund of Rs 5,000 crore for market intervention, earmarking another Rs 1,000 crore for stabilising the prices of agricultural produce, a job for each house and unemployment allowance of Rs 2,000 per month were a few important ones.

The Congress would continue to hound the TDP until it fulfilled all the important assurances it made in the manifesto, he said.

MLC C. Ramachandraiah said the Chief Minister signed on five files after assuming charge. The closure of belt shops was one of the files. However, in a bid to increase the revenue of the State more belt shops were being opened. PCC vice-president Devineni Rajasekhar said instead of spending money for what was promised in the manifesto TDP was coming up with new projects like the Pattiseema Lift Irrigation Scheme which were of no use.
