A meeting of the city-level committee on traffic was held to discuss measure to be taken to control the operation of illicit vehicles, including private buses and autos, at the Pandit Nehru Bus Station here on Saturday.
Addressing the meeting Police Commissioner N. Madhusudhan Reddy took important decisions to control the private vehicles.
The Commissioner said the buses running under private carriage contract were parked in front of PN Busstation and near city terminal on a regular basis.

He directed the police personnel to ensure that this practice was stopped immediately.
Brokers to be checked
It was also noted that brokers of private buses were moving on the bus station premises to pick up passengers of RTC buses and that they were even manhandling the RTC staff in some cases. The commissioner assured the RTC staff that if necessary criminal cases would be booked against those indulging in such activities and asked the Circle Inspector of the Krishnalanka Police Station to take necessary action.

Survey
Mr. Madhusudhan Reddy advised the committee members to team up with the municipal authorities and conduct a survey to identify the places where autos and other vehicles were being parked illegally and causing traffic problems.
The Circle Inspector of Krishnalanka at the meeting said the RTC buses were not stopped at their proper bus bays but are stopped randomly at places like fire stations, Bandar locks, etc.
Vijayawada APSRTC Regional Manager K.V.K. Prasad said supervisors would be posted at such positions to check the unscheduled stops.
The Police Commissioner also promised to take suitable action to stop plying of autos on the National Highways.
It was also decided to post a police constable at terminus to avoid traffic jams caused due to stoppage of autos near the outgate of the city bus terminal and shift the auto stand towards the Krishna Lanka police station side.
