Police organise blood donation camp

Students watching fire arms on display at an Open House programme for awareness as part of the Police Commemoration Week celebrations at AR Grounds in Vijayawada on Thursday.

As part of the Police Commemoration Week that began on October 15, the men in khakis organised a blood donation camp at the Armed Reserve (AR) Police grounds, here on Thursday.

The camp was inaugurated by Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP- Admin) A.S. Khan in the presence of DCP (Law and Order) M. Ravi Prakash, AR ACP Srinivas Rao, ACP Raghava Rao and Madan Mohan. About 65 policemen, both officers and constables donated blood.

They also organised a painting competition for school children, cartoon competition for children of policemen and essay writing competition for police officers and school children. But what attracted the students the most was the open house session, where they were exposed to the various weapons assigned to the police force. A few were even given the opportunity get a feel of them.

Section 30

In view of the ongoing Samaikyandhra agitation and fragile law and order situation prevailing in the city, the Commissioner of Police B. Srinivasulu has imposed Section 30 of the Indian Police Act of 1861, as a preventive measure.

About 147 stray cattle were impounded and shifted to the pinfold by the traffic police here on Thursday.

The cattle have been a major source of obstruction for the commuters.
