Plea to confer Bharat Ratna on Pingali Venkayya

Machilipatnam-based NGO, Vijaya Krishna Coastal Highway Jana Jagruthi Samstha (VKCHJJS), has appealed to the President and the Prime Minister to confer ‘Bharat Ratna’ on Indian national flag designer Pingali Venkayya on Monday. VKCHJJS convener S. Kalidas and secretary Ch. Bhakthanjaneya on Monday sent letters to this effect.

The letter of appeal has also been sent to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and senior BJP leader L.K. Advani as well as Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, seeking their support. The NGO members also recalled the great services of Venkayya during the freedom struggle. Venkayya was born at Batlapenumarru village in Movva mandal of Krishna district.
