Representatives of both the ruling TDP and the Opposition YSRCP have neglected the development of Vizianagaram, JSP president Pawan Kalyan has said.

Addressing a public meeting at Ayodhya Maidan here on Friday, Mr. Pawan Kalyan was particularly critical of the way these parties remained silent over the closure of many jute and other industries.

While TDP MP P. Ashok Gajapathi Raju confined himself to the fort and failed to address public grievances, YSRCP leader Botcha Satyanarayana turned a blind eye to the problems of the people, he said, and urged the electorate to reject the political dominance of a few families in Vizianagaram district.

Taking a snipe at Mr. Ashok Gajapathi Raju, the JSP president said, “The TDP MP has forgotten my name though I campaigned for him in the 2014 elections.”

“I have come to promise a clean administration that ensures the progress of the district. We will ensure jobs for the youth by encouraging industries in the backward district,” Mr. Pawan Kalyan said.

The TDP government introduced the ‘Mukhyamantri Yuvanestham’ scheme just before the elections only to gain political mileage, he said.

He criticised YSRCP president Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy for playing into Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao’s hands, and cited his decision not to contest the elections in that State to prove his point.

In his address, JSP candidate for Vizianagaram Lok Sabha seat M. Srinivasa Rao highlighted the need to address the problem of migration in the district. “Vizianagaram has all the natural resources. But it has not progressed as expected. Now is the time for people to welcome new-age politics for the benefit of all sections of society,” said Mr. Srinivasa Rao.

Party nominee for Vizianagaram Assembly seat P. Yashaswi promised to improve the civic amenities if elected.

Mr. Pawan Kalyan also addressed a public meeting near Natavalasa under Nellimarla Assembly constituency, where he called upon people to vote for party contestant L. Naga Madhavi.
