No use of all-party meet: Lagadapati

November 01, 2013 12:38 pm | Updated May 28, 2016 06:17 am IST - VIJAYAWADA:

The all-party meeting that will be convened by the Centre on Telangana was of no use, Vijayawada MP Lagadapati Rajagopal has said.

Addressing media persons here on Thursday, Mr. Rajagopal said that there would be no change in the stand of the different parties on the issue. The representatives and leaders of the different parties were either in favour or against the bifurcation. Only the introduction of a resolution on Telangana in the State Assembly as per the provisions of the Indian Constitution and recording the opinions of the members would be of help, Mr. Rajagopal said.

The MP said that former Prime Minister and Congress leader Indira Gandhi was an integrationist and so the current AICC president Sonia Gandhi and vice-president Rahul Gandhi should also express their support for the integrationists.

He said that the sentiment against the division of the State was very strong and he could confidently say that there was no force on earth that could divide Andhra Pradesh.

Supporting former Minister J.C. Diwakar Reddy, Mr. Rajagopal said that Mr. Reddy and his family were with the Congress for three generations.

It was improper for party leaders to say that he should quit because he spoke out for the ideals of Indira Gandhi, he said.

Elections would be held in the undivided Andhra Pradesh and the formation day of the State also celebrated in 2014, the MP predicted.
