The district administration will install traffic signals at the busy Veterinary Hospital Junction on Bandar Road. Equipped with solar power systems and the latest surveillance cameras, these signal lights will be operational within a few days, according to senior officials.

As against conventional signal lights, the new lights will be visible to motorists from as far as one km away, they said, adding that a private firm would be installing the lights as part of its corporate social responsibility initiative. “We are yet to complete works pertaining to stop line and zebra crossing marks along with other electrification works,” said another official.

The eight-km stretch from old check post ‘T’ junction at Autonagar to old bus station road on Bandar Road has as many as 13 junctions. Signals at some intersections are down due to technical glitches, he added. Assistant Commissioner of Police (Traffic) S. Srinivas Rao said the administration would develop the intersection near Veterinary Hospital into a model junction. “If it yields the desire result, we will execute similar projects at other junctions,” he said.
