Minister asks VMC to speed up JNNURM works

Officials are asked to restore damaged roads on a war-footing in view of Dasara festival

Secondary Education Minister K. Parthasarathy has asked the Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC) officials to complete the developmental works taken up under Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM) programme faster in the city.

Reviewing the progress of JNNURM works here on Saturday, Mr. Parthasarathy said the roads were damaged due to the Under Ground Drainage (UGD) works taken up in the Vijayawada (West) Constituency. The roads should be restored on a war-footing in view of fast approaching Dasara festival. The VMC should accord top priority to repair of the roads, he said.

The VMC should erect display boards at the project sites and places of works explaining every detail of the work.

The details of contractor such as name, address, cell phone number, contract value, expected time of completion etc. These initiatives were necessary for a transparent administration, he said.

Vijayawada (West) MLA Velampalli Srinivasa Rao said the roads were in bad shape in One Town. The roads need to be restored immediately. Vijayawada (East) MLA Yelamanchili Ravi asked the VMC officials to take necessary steps to construct sub stations, culverts on Bandar road.

Vijayawada (Central) MLA Malladi Vishnu said allocations should be made at division level and complete the JNNURM works. District Collector S.A.M. Rizvi, Municipal Commissioner G. Ravi Babu, and city planner Vidyullatha were among those present.
