The Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC) has denied the claims of YSRC and Congress leaders that two dengue deaths were reported in the city.
YSRC floor leader in the VMC Council B. Punyaseela alleged that a woman had died of dengue at Ajitsinghnagar last week, while City Congress president Malladi Vishnu claimed an MBA student from Srinagar Colony, C. Anil Kumar, had died on Tuesday.
Mr. Vishnu said it was unfortunate that despite the Centre alerting civic bodies on the rise in viral fevers, the VMC had failed to take any measures to curb the spread.

“The Chief Minister is in the city and the Health Minister hails from Krishna district. Yet, the health scenario in the district and the State is pathetic. The condition in rural areas is even worse as people have a limited access to quality healthcare,” he added. Though it was mandatory for private hospitals to conduct Elisa test on patients with dengue symptoms, many hospitals were violating the rules, he alleged.
Meanwhile, Mayor Koneru Sridhar said 28 dengue cases had been reported in the city since January, and asserted that there were no deaths. He said 275 malaria cases had also been reported. He said VMC officials had already launched anti-larval operations and fogging activities. He pointed out that health camps were being organised in each division of the city till October 12.
