It has been a worrisome situation for the groom G. Durga Rao’s family from VAMBAY Colony in Singhnagar as it is unable to hire experienced photo-cum-videographers for his marriage on December 7.
The family has been pleading photo-cum-videographers in the city to render their services but pat comes the reply that they had prior commitments and it is not possible to oblige them. “It’s becoming a Herculean task for us to hire the services of videographers for the last few weeks. They are demanding more than Rs.30,000 because of the hectic bookings during this marriage season,” said Mr. Rao’s brother Suresh Babu.
Like Mr. Rao’s family, several other families have been facing similar situation due to non-availability of flower decorators, caterers, orchestra troupes, priests and marriage halls owing to auspicious ‘muhurtams’ on December 6, 7, 12, 13 and 14. Officials said that out of 50 and odd function halls on the main thoroughfares from Patamata to Kankipadu, Eluru Road, Bandar Road, etc., a majority of them have been booked.

“Our hall is booked during the auspicious days between December 6 and 18 and tariff excludes electricity charges. We are also providing live broadcast of the ceremony,” explained Anjaneyulu from Mana Kalyana Vedika. Orchestra troupes claimed that the business this time was profitable when compared to a few months ago as orders were pouring in.
“We are charging Rs.10,000 to Rs.20,000 from each family for performing at a marriage ceremony,” said Sri Durga Sai Band Troupe owner M. Janardhana Rao from Vijayawada. Most flower decorators and caterers too were demanding exorbitant charges owing to increasing customer patronage, complained groom-to-be family members.
According to priests, there were no auspicious functions during ‘Guru Mudham’ period from July 27 to August 12. Again, there was ‘Sukra Mudham’ from September 18 to November 30, which was inauspicious. Marriages could be performed between December 3 and 14 and later, good ‘muhurtams’ were available from January 22 to March 15, 2015, they explained.
