Parents should do their bit, says Minister

Minister for Education Adimulapu Suresh said the Mana Badi-Nadu Nedu programme of augmenting the infrastructure in government schools would be launched on November 14 to cover 15,000 schools in the first phase.

Mr. Suresh said adequate provision had been made for it in the budget and the officials of all departments should ensure that not only did the schools get a facelift but also the education standards are improved.

Addressing a review meeting on Monday, he said the facilities provided during the TDP regime were substandard and it was evident from the photographs already taken under Mana Badi-Nadu Nedu .

Many schools were in a dilapidated condition. The new look worn by schools would be shown in the form of photographs once the programme was completed.

Mr. Suresh said parents would be involved in the upkeep of schools. It would be a ‘social contract’ system meant to get society contribute its mite for the development of schools, he said, insisting that engineers play a crucial role in the foolproof execution of the programme.
