Three prominent States, Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, will be counselled on homeland security and counter terrorism by K. Ramesh Babu from Tenali.
The government of Gujarat has invited him to be part of preparation of a strategic security report as well as teaching in its Homeland Security and Anti-Terrorism programme meant for post graduate students in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s pet project, Gujarat Forensic Sciences University.
“The invitation from Gujarat was a pleasant surprise. My work will start from first week of February. I’m also preparing certain plans on security related aspects of A.P. and Telangana,” said Mr. Ramesh, founder director of Hyderabad based Think Tank, Centre for Human Security Studies (CHSS). Mr. Ramesh, trained in the US and Israel on security studies, has already forged tie-ups with National Police Academy, AP Police Academy, Octopus and National Investigation Agency (NIA) for training.

Back home, the government of Telangana is working on a blue print for a new security centre. “It’s in a nascent stage, but we are working closely with CHSS for an exclusive centre to deal with internal security,” said a top official from Telangana.
The AP government too is preparing ground to strengthen 900-km coast line and is in the process of evolving a foolproof plan to deal with the security aspects of the new State. “The expertise of CHSS and experience of its director in Israel and the US came handy for us. We received a proposal for nine coastal districts which is in the process of evaluation,” said a senior official of Home Ministry.
“The plan is mostly focused on studying vulnerabilities and possible remedies. It includes the best practices followed in similar geographies in the world,” Mr Ramesh said. The NIA, Hyderabad and CHSS together will be holding a conference on maritime security, involving countries in the Indian Ocean this March, he said.
