The long-pending demand of Madhuranagar residents for a community hall is likely to be fulfilled in a few days. Following the Vijayawada Municipal Corporation’s (VMC) request seeking donations for completing the construction of the community hall, a builder has come forward to donate Rs. 20 lakh.
The works started with Rs. 20 lakh, a few years ago, but had to be suspended for lack of funds. VMC officials had erected pillars and slab and since then residents had been demanding a community hall and the same was brought to the notice of VMC Commissioner G. Veerapandian during his inspection on Wednesday, said corporator A. Ravikumar.
The plan was to construct a ground plus first floor structure for the convenience of residents. There is a need for Rs.25 lakh more to complete the construction works and a real estate builder has promised to donate Rs.20 lakh and rest of the funds are being pooled. Construction works would commence by this month-end, he said.

Similarly, VMC officials were urged to undertake repairs to the dilapidated municipal complex in the area. There are about 20 outlets in the complex. Apart from only six, rest are lying vacant owing to their poor maintenance and leakages from the roof.
The Commissioner instructed engineering wing officials to conduct a study and submit a report on the budget needed for taking up the repair works.
He later inspected Ambedkar Colony, Teachers Colony, Srinagar Colony and other areas in 46{+t}{+h}division. Mr. Veerapandian wanted officials to take stern action against the staff and ensure regular clearance of garbage, said a press release.
