‘Cycling best form of exercise'

Minister for Animal Husbandry and Fisheries K. Parthasaradhy on Sunday said that cycling was the best form of exercise and it also protected environment from pollution.

Inaugurating the cycle rally in city, organised by Association of Active Bicyclers as part of the World Health Week celebrations, Mr. Parthasaradhy said that owing to the enormous increase of vehicles on the road, the pollution levels were reaching an alarming high in cities and towns.

“We should revert back cycling to keep ourselves fit. One can also save sufficient money on fuel,” he added. The rally was jointly organised with the assistance of Andhra Pradesh Pollution Board.

Krishna District Youth Welfare Department director V. Joshi asked the parents to desist from buying the fancy motorcycles for their children and encourage cycling for their better health.

“The entire body gets activated and energised by cycling.”

Association of Active Bicyclers secretary V. Satyanarayana asked the government to come forward in promoting cycling in schools and colleges in a big manner. “We, as a society, should educate the youngsters in using the public transport system. With fewer vehicles on the road, the pollution can be reduced and also we can protect the environment,” he pointed out.

Several school children with placards tied around their bicycles highlighting the importance of cycling, went around the city to create awareness among the general public.
