MP Jayadev Galla said 50 per cent of the land in Capital region would be used for common use and public spaces and asserted that it would be a futuristic city conforming to global standards.

Drafting of the master plan and zoning were in advanced stages. “It (the Capital city) will represent the aspirations of 50 million people of Andhra Pradesh”, he said while answering questions in the inaugural function of Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) Young Indians Vijayawada Chapter here on Sunday. Mr. Jayadev said the Capital region would have a central business district surrounded by residential and commercial properties and an industrial belt mainly comprising food processing units and some large industries.

A conscious decision has been taken to reserve half of the land for public spaces to avoid the raising of yet another concrete jungle. A few Capital cities in India have as much land area allocated for the stated purpose.

As far as the Central government’s promises were concerned, Mr. Jayadev said clarity was expected in the upcoming Union budget. Industries would have their financial viability strengthened by the incentives that the special category status would bring.

The entrepreneurs were looking forward to that, he said, adding it was a lifetime opportunity to develop A.P into one of the world’s best cities at a time when the Capital of the undivided State (Hyderabad) no longer hogged the kind of limelight that it used to previously.

Tadikonda MLA T. Sravan Kumar said land pooling for the Capital was going on smoothly and it was poised to cross the 12,000 acre mark by Sunday evening.

It was a record of sorts that the government achieved in acquiring the targeted 30,000 acres for the Capital in the first phase.

The temporary Capital would come by August 15 and an announcement in this regard was to be made in two to three days. By the end of June, the master plan would be ready, the MLA said while hoping that the initial Central support of Rs 15,000 crore would fructify sooner than later.
