KRU’s priority for women education, says Vice Chancellor

With an aim to provide education to poor in rural areas, Krishna University (KRU), Machilipatnam, is giving priority for women education, said its Vice-Chancellor Vunnam Venkaiah.

The university which has about 45,000 students in 143 colleges across Krishna district is covering almost all villages. Of the total, 48.5 per cent students are girls in KRU, said Prof. Venkaiah.

Addressing a press conference at P.B. Siddhartha College here on Thursday, the Vice-Chancellor said for the first time the institution was conferring degrees on 16,500 Graduate and Under Graduate students in the second convocation to be held at Tummalapalli Kalakshetram in the city on Friday.

Governor and KRU Chancellor E.S.L. Narasimhan is likely to attend the programme. International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea at Hamburg, Germany, Justice P.C. Rao will deliver lecture on the occasion. A report would be presented to the Governor on the achievements and activities of Krishna University, said Mr. Venkaiah.

The university management was making elaborate arrangements for the event. Students and staff of various colleges would attend, the Vice-Chancellor added.

Earlier, Prof. Venkaiah held discussions with P.B. Siddhartha College Principal M.V.N. Padma Rao and Director Vemuri Babu Rao on improving standards in various courses being offered in the university affiliated colleges.
