Taking strong exception to the allegations made by TDP Vijayawada Parliamentary constituency candidate Kesineni Srinivas (Nani), his YSR Congress counterpart Koneru Rajendra Prasad on Friday said that he would lodge a complaint over the issue with the Election Commission.

“ Kesineni Nani is making baseless personal allegations and this is not permitted when the model code of conduct is in force. This matter will be taken up with the Election Commission authorities and if need be, a defamation suit would also be filed,” said Mr. Prasad, while addressing a press conference in the city on Friday.

“I have faith in the law. I am innocent and false cases have been implicated against me. I am confident of coming out clean,” Mr. Prasad said.

Asserting that development of Vijayawada was his top priority, he said lot of effort was put in to develop Srikakulam district. “When majority of the companies were not willing to invest there, I had set up a Rs.600- crore project in Srikakulam,” he said.

YSRC Assembly constituency candidates from the city Jaleel Khan (Vijayawada West), Vangaveeti Radhakrishna (Vijayawada East) and Gowtham Reddy (Vijayawada Central), who shared the stage with Mr. Prasad took over when media persons asked his reply over the allegations made by other candidates.

“It would be better if politicians stay away from making personal allegations and maintain a healthy debate over the development of the city,” urged Mr. Radhakrishna.

Development plank

The YSRC is committed to develop Vijayawada and several plans are being made to address all the pending issues. Flyover construction at Kanakadurga temple has been long-pending demand and given the technological advancement, it can be constructed in a couple of years. Similarly, provision of basic amenities like supply of drinking water, proper drainage system and construction of an elevated expressway will address many problems in the city, Mr. Prasad said.
