VMC has taken up construction of 8,800 houses under JNNURM

Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy and Union Minister for Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation Kumari Selja are likely to inaugurate the housing complex at Jakkampudi near here in January.

According to information here they will inaugurate the housing complex in first week of January. The Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC) has taken up construction of 8,800 houses at Jakkampudi under Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM) Programme with a cost of Rs. 242 crore, including infrastructure cost of Rs.44 crore.

The housing complex is constructed in an area of 96.56 acre. Each unit with a plinth of 315 sq.ft will cost around Rs. 2.25 lakh. Of this, the Central Government share is Rs.66,000, State and ULB would spend Rs.1.19 lakh, while beneficiary will contribute Rs.40,000.

The VMC is planning to allot the houses to Budameru flood victims, people living on Krishna river bed, on canal bunds and on road margins. The VMC also has plans to allot the houses to people who have encroached and living in areas in Gulabithota and Sundaraiah Nagar.

The farmers of Jakkampudi were involved in the housing programme on 60-40 ratio. The VMC developed their land, and took 40 per cent of the developed land for housing.

The VMC is providing a high school cum junior college, elementary cum upper primary school, primary health centre, and a commercial complex. The Under Ground Drainage (UGD) facility, BT road, model community hall, and beautification of Budameru drain etc at the Jakkampudi housing complex.
