Kiran asked to make statement on Pulichintala project

May 09, 2013 02:34 pm | Updated July 31, 2016 12:32 pm IST - GUNTUR:

CPI (M) District Secretary D. Rama Devi demanded that the Chief Minister should make a statement on the long-awaited K.L. Rao Sagar (Pulichintala) project during the ‘Rythu Chaitanya Sadassu’ being held on Thursday. The Chief Minister is also expected to take concrete measures for alleviating the plight of farmers, particularly tenant farmers, whose lives have been rendered miserable by the sharp rise in prices of farm inputs, their exploitation by the middlemen and lack of remunerative prices.

In an open letter to the CM released to media, Ms. Rama Devi stated that the living conditions of farmers were so pathetic that doing marriages has become difficult. Vast tracts of agricultural land in Palnadu area resemble a desert as water from Nagarjuna Sagar has almost dried up.

Another thing that required the Chief Minister’s attention is the need to sanction house sites to the SCs and STs. During its `Bhu Poratam’ campaign, the CPI (M) distributed 1,500 acres of assigned lands to SC and ST communities but they were unable to get houses constructed for want of pattas. This has been a long-pending problem in Atmakur, Guntur, Nambur, Pedakakani, Piduguralla, Vaddeswaram, Vinukonda.
