: The city’s sports fraternity received both good and bad news on Wednesday concerning two illustrious sports personalities pursuing cricket and archery.
The good news is with regard to former Andhra first class cricketer D. Kalyan Krishna, who will be part of the Telugu commentary team of Sony Kix for the forthcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) from April 14 and he will be bringing out the ball-by-ball commentary from Mumbai.
“I am thrilled for I am going to be on the other side of cricket field for the first time. After donning the role of player and coach I will now be handling the mike. The proceedings will be beamed both in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana,” says Vijayawada-born Kalyan, who played Ranji, Duleep, Deodhar Trophies and the first two editions of IPL for Deccan Chargers.

Kalyan played for Andhra for nine years and he is at present the head coach of the Krishna District Cricket Association.
However, the news that city’s well-known archer Vennam Jyothi Surekha suffered a serious shoulder injury which prevented from making to the Indian team for the World Cup fixture at China has come as a shock the game’s administrators for the Koneru Lakhmaiah University student is part of the Indian team for six years.

“She developed acute pain in the shoulder joints and she felt severe discomfort during the selection trials in New Delhi. She performed below par,” says her father Surendra.
Surekha is undergoing treatment at Ayush Hospital under the care of Dr. Hari Krishna and she is likely to miss the action for a few weeks. “She will be ready for the next selection trials to pick the team for Turkey.”
Surekha brought laurels to the State and the country by bagging dozens of medals in national and international tournaments such as Asian Games, South Asian Federation Games and World University Games. She is World No. 12 in the women’s compound segment.
