Passengers travelling in Vijayawada-bound Air India flight counted tense moments after it failed to land at the Gannavaram airport and returned to the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) at Shamshabad on Friday due to inclement weather.
The aircraft 544 with over 82 passengers, including Agriculture Minister P. Pulla Rao, was supposed to land at the Gannavaram airport at 4.40 p.m.
'The flight reached the airport, but owing to bad weather, it did not land on the runway and returned to the RGIA.

After getting clearance from the Air Traffic Control, the flight landed at Shamshabad around 7.50 p.m., Airport Director M. Rajkishore said.
Inundated
Meanwhile, the lanes and by-lanes on M.G. Road, Jammi Chettu, Nakkal Road, Autonagar gate and other low-lying areas were inundated after heavy rain lashed the city.

Motorcyclists and pedestrians were forced to wade through knee-deep water at several stretches. Autonagar Gate and Pinnamaneni Polyclinic Road turned into cesspools with water from the open drains gushing on to the main roads.
