Helpline for senior citizens launched

Senior citizens in the city can now seek redressal of their grievances at the helpline launched on Saturday on the premises of Municipal High School on Brodiepet first lane behind the office of Regional Director of Municipal Administration.

In addition to the helpline, a physiotherapy centre and a fitness centre have also been set up in the centre.

Inaugurating the new facility set up with assistance from HelpAge India, District Collector Kona Sasidhar said that senior citizens in the city can walk in to the helpline centre and submit their applications. The centre would have personnel to assist them in filing petitions, seeking maintenance from children and other legal matters.

District Judge Hari Haranatha Sharma said that senior citizens have been contributing in a significant manner to the development of society. He said that they have many legal safeguards and can seek legal assistance. Free legal aid is now being provided to senior citizens by the courts.

Municipal Commissioner Srikesh B. Latkar was also present.
