Heart-rending scenes were witnessed at hospitals here on Thursday when the relatives of the three engineering students and a young doctor saw the mortal remains of the four, who died in a car accident.
While Jyotirmayee was in her final year of ECE, Sindhuja and Chandusri were in their third year in the same branch. A pall of gloom descended on GGH where the bodies of the students were sent for post mortem. The classmates present at the hospital informed The Hindu that all of them were bright students.
Jyotirmayee’s mother, who was inconsolable at GGH, was found repeating the words in a hysterical manner that she was ready with the tiffin that her daughter likes to have after returning from college and now she was being handed over her lifeless body.

A devastated BGKG Sarma, a resident of Ibrahimpatnam, said that his son Maruthi Suresh was a bright student all his life. He was in the top bracket right from his school days till he completed his MBBS and MD in pulmonology from Rangaraya Medical College in Kakinada. He was married in August.
According to the Deputy Commissioner of Police M. Ravi Prakash, the driver, Kondam Raju (50), was taken into custody and admitted to a hospital for examination to ascertain if he was drunk or was suffering from hypertension as claimed by him.

Member of Poura Samaja Vedika Pothina Venkata Rama Rao, who was witness to the accident, said that it was a clear case of over-speeding. Mr. Rama Rao picked up four of them before the 108 could arrive and shifted them to the Sentini Hospital in his car. “But unfortunately two of the girls died,” he lamented.
Apart from Mr. Rama Rao, the employees of Best Cars and Volkswagen Showroom, played a big role in shifting the injured and the dead to hospital. The residents of Ramavarapadu and shop owners, who poured onto the road after the accident, said that over-speeding was a major problem in that area. They pointed out that the bus stop needs to be shifted, as this was the second accident within two years.
