Members of the APBCL IMFL Depot Hamali Union staged a dharna in front of the depot at Auto Nagar here on Saturday demanding steps to be taken for redressal of their grievances.

Scrapping of the tender system, provision of facilities like the ones enjoyed by their counterparts in Food and Civil Supplies Department and a hike in the import rate are their main demands. They have resolved to sit on 48-hour hunger strike from Monday to press for an early solution to their problems.

Addressing the workers, union secretary B. Suman said there was no proper response from APBCL Managing Director to issues taken to his notice and repeated pleas for rectifying the anomalies came to a naught. The liquor hamalis should be provided facilities like ESI, PF, identity bonus and identity cards, Mr. Suman said and warned of intensifying the agitation if the government continued to ignore their plight.
