Guntur is set to become the first district in the State to complete the computerisation of Case Information System (CIS) of Courts by the end of July this year and start dispensing information to litigant public through Judicial Service Centres (JSCs).
CIS is also useful to advocates and advocate clerks who can keep their clients informed about the status of their cases without having to physically sift through the massive number of case files.
A JSC is already functioning successfully in Guntur city since its inauguration on the District Court premises in February 2011, with the average number of enquiries attended in it (JSC) hovering around 1,500.

It is now the turn of JSCs at Narasaraopet and Tenali to be inaugurated upon the completion of data entry work in all the courts there.
The CIS will cover five courts in the XI Additional District Court Complex at Tenali and six in the XIII Additional District Court Complex at Narsaraopet.
The district has a total of 63 courts including that of the Principal District Judge, permanent Lok Adalat, District Legal Services Authority and Official Receiver.

The District Court Complex in Guntur alone has 25 courts.
The CIS is a part of the e-Courts project which is aimed at tapping the potential of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) for hassle-free and transparent functioning of the entire judiciary right from the Supreme Court to all High Courts and the lower courts, Principal District Judge M. Satyanarayana Murthy told The Hindu .
The project work is in advanced stages in the Senior Civil Judge Court Complexes at Bapatla (comprising 3 Courts), Gurazala (5), Mangalagiri (3), Repalle (3) and Sattenapalli (2), Railway Court in Guntur, Principal and Additional Junior Civil Judges Courts at Chilakaluripet, Junior Civil Judge Courts at Macherla, Piduguralla and Vinukonda, Junior and Additional Junior Civil Judges Courts at Ponnur and II Additional Junior Civil Judge Court at Sattenapalli.
Through the CIS, parties to a dispute, advocates and their clerks can know the status of their case (whether pending or disposed), case number (if it is forgotten by the parties to dispute) through name or FIR number search, hearing dates, previous proceedings and the court in which the case is pending.
In the near future, the CIS will be made accessible through Internet. For the time being, it (CIS) benefits can be reaped only through the JSCs.
