The Guntur Urban police have taken control of the grounds opposite Acharya Nagarjuna University (ANU) near Kaza toll plaza in the wake of the news that Chief Minister-designate of Andhra Pradesh and Telugu Desam Party (TDP) president N. Chandrababu Naidu will take oath of office here on June 8.
According to sources, the police have drawn out a multi-layer security plan for the event as Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Ministers of five to six States, including those under BJP rule, are expected to attend the swearing-in.
Security will be tight and a massive cordon will be thrown around the grounds and its neighbouring areas. The area will be off-limits to the general public baring enclosures meant for them.

Enhanced security checks will be carried out and extra police pickets and barricades will be set up, sources said.
The TDP leaders are expecting around 4 to 5 lakh people to participate in the programme. Party leaders from Krishna and Guntur districts have taken it up as a prestigious issue to make the event a grand success.
Mr. Naidu is said to have told the leaders that party flags should not be put up near the dais as the swearing-in was a government programme. Guntur Additional SP D. Janaki said they put up fencing around the grounds in view of the proposed meeting. The police, however, said they haven’t received any official communication.

“We have received oral communication. There is no confirmation. A meeting with the TDP and the BJP will be convened shortly regarding the programme to confirm the arrival VVIPs and VIPs. Security arrangements will be made accordingly,” Ms. Janaki said.
