After several complaints, the Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC) has finally taken up works on replacement of the decades-old Tummalapalli Kalakshetram-Old Government Hospital drinking water pipeline with a new 800 mm pipeline to ensure regular supply of water to different areas.
As part of the summer action plan, VMC officials are taking up works to replace the old pipeline with a new one with an investment of Rs.1.30 crore. Gandhinagar, Srinagar Colony, Satyanarayanapuram, Gulam Mohiuddinnagar and other areas in Machavaram get water though this pipeline and of late, there have been complaints from residents of irregular and insufficient supply of water due to leakages in the pipeline.
VMC Commissioner G. Veerapandian on Thursday inspected the works and instructed the officials to complete the works at the earliest to avoid any inconvenience to residents in terms of water supply. He also inspected the civic works being taken up at Gandhinagar and Alankar reservoirs to plug leakages in the pipelines and wanted the officials to complete the works at the earliest. Later, he visited Ajitsinghnagar and inspected the open plot identified for establishing a school. He informed that the SSA sought land for setting up of a school for orphans and said if funds were sanctioned, the VMC would construct the building, said a press release.
