Govt. blamed for tardy durbar move

The shifting of various government departments from Hyderabad to Andhra Pradesh does not seem to be on the priority list of the Cabinet.

Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu, briefing the media after Wednesday’s Cabinet meeting, said the government wanted to shift “as soon as possible” but added the rider “we have a right to use Hyderabad as the capital for ten years. We should not relinquish it.”

Employees unions are, however, under the impression that the State government is dragging its feet on the durbar move because it lacks the political will. If the government showed half the will it was showing in the Pattiseema lift irrigation project, the process of shifting out of Hyderabad would gather pace, uion leaders said.

APNGO Employees Association state leader A. Vidya Sagar said up to 50 per cent of the State government employees working in Hyderabad were ready to move at the earliest but it was the government that was hesitant.

For instance, in the Iirrigation Department, over 5000 employees would be ready to move back to their parent zones, he said. The process could start with several small departments with a dozen or more employees. The vigilance wings of various departments were still languishing in Hyderabad even though they had nothing to do in Hyderabad, he said.

Staff working in the Secretariat or the Assembly need not be disturbed, but the rest of the employees could be shifted, he said.
