Andhra Pradesh (A.P.) Governor Biswa Bhusan Harichandan appreciated the services being rendered by the Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS) while giving away the IRCS Annual Awards for 2018-19 here on Monday.
He said the IRCS was promoting the spirit of service and building awareness about cleanliness, hygiene and green cover, conservation of energy and water and waste management among students and motivating them by presenting awards to the best performing schools and colleges.
The Governor said he was happy to learn IRCS A.P. branch has supplied 30% of blood to the needy people free of cost and West Godavari district branch established an exclusive thalassemia, sickle cell and hemophilia transfusion centre at Eluru.

Earlier, IRCS A.P. chairperson Rachel Chatterjee said awards were introduced in various new categories from 2018-19 for developing thinking and writing abilities among different sections on diverse social issues.
Similarly, Junior Red Cross Awards and Youth Red Cross awards were introduced this year. IRCS collaborated with various government departments and agencies and conducted 161 training programmes covering 7,661 beneficiaries with the help of Disaster Management and Youth Services Departments, she stated.
Secretary to Governor Mukesh Kumar Meena and IRCS State general secretary S. Balasubrahmanyam were among those present.
