“No medicines are available, doctors too are not available, patients are forced to purchase life-saving blood, and patients are not being admitted though the wards are empty.” These are the findings of a delegation of the CPI(M). The party leaders visited the Government General Hospital (GGH) here on Thursday and found some discrepancies in the services. CPI(M) city secretary R. Raghu, State executive member Ch. Babu Rao, Singhnagar zone convenors V. Sambireddi and Vishnu, Patamata zone convenor B. Nageswara Rao, One Town zone convenor B. Satibabu, and party leader Nataraj went in a delegation to inspect the GGH as part of the party's Health Week programme.
Several patients represented their woes to the delegation. Heavy rain that had been lashing the city for the past two days had converted the GGH compound into a lake of sorts. Patients complained that slush and mosquitoes were causing tremendous inconvenience to them. A patient Gopalam from Tadigadapa, who was suffering from neurological problem for the past one month, said he came last week to the hospital. He was told medication would be given to him on Wednesday. When he came for medicines on the day the hospital staff said there was no doctor and sent him away.
Another woman who came from Nuzvid said the hospital staff told her that medicines prescribed were not available in the hospital. The delegation, in a report to the media, said hospital Superintendent was not available when they tried to meet him.
