With preparations for the Amaravati foundation ceremony begin to gain momentum, the Capital Region Development Authority (CRDA) is planning to lay a link road for direct access from the Gannavaram airport to Amaravati without getting entangled in Vijayawada’s road network.
The CRDA has invited bids from companies to conduct a feasibility study and develop a design for the link road to Gannavaram airport from the proposed Vijayawada bypass road, which connects Chinna Avutupalli with Kaza.
Work on the nearly 50 km stretch from Chinna Avutupalli to Kaza is underway. CRDA now wants to connect a link road from the Gannavaram airport to this stretch, covering a distance of about 10 km. There is a need to have convenient access to Amaravati from Gannavaram airport, and this link road would help in comfortable travel, besides decongestion of the Vijayawada road network.

At present, people wanting to reach Amaravati from the Gannavaram airport have to travel via Vijayawada, Undavalli, Rayapudi and Vykuntapuram, covering a distance of about 55 km. More so, the stretch is narrow.
Considering all these factors, CRDA is inviting companies to conduct a feasibility study and design the link road alignment. The successful bidder will have to submit a detailed project report (DPR) and a detailed design estimate including surveying, soil exploration, land acquisition, preparation of plans digitally, said a CRDA official.
The initial blueprint of the project was already prepared and a presentation was made to Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu recently. However, with senior authorities wanting the link road to be aesthetic and iconic, bidders are being invited, he said.

As per the initial blueprint, a ‘Y’ junction was proposed at Bibigudem to facilitate traffic flow. The companies will have to study such options and suggest the best intersection point on the Chinna Avutupalli-Kaza stretch. Each bidder has to pay an earnest money deposit of Rs. 2 lakh and the bids would be opened on October 12, he added.
