Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu is at pains to assure the Backward Classes that no injustice will be done to them as far as their reservations are concerned. He has promised to order a fresh economic survey of the 139 castes which constitute the Backward Classes (BCs) if the situation required.
Addressing the mega BC loan mela at IGMC stadium here on Saturday, Mr. Naidu asserted that the BCs need not be apprehensive of the government’s intentions as it would not do even 1 per cent injustice to them to accommodate the demands of the Kapu community. Ten BC federations would be activated and given adequate financial assistance to extend the benefits to every single BC family. A detailed programme would be worked out by April. In the due course, committees of BC federations would hold stakeholder meetings.
Self-employment ventures of artisans, who constitute a majority of the BCs, would be funded by the government to the maximum extent possible. For instance, Nayi Brahmins would be supported in the establishment of modern beauty parlours.

Fisherfolk, who constitute a sizable chunk of the BCs, would be helped in purchasing large mechanised boats that can venture into the high seas for deep sea fishing.
A BC Bhavan would be constructed in each one of the 13 districts to facilitate activities of those communities.
The Chief Minister went on to say that 500 talented students from the BCs would be sent abroad for higher studies with due financial support from the government. Two-bedroom flats were planned to be constructed for the BCs. Earlier, Mr. Naidu shouted down a few participants who raised their voice against inclusion of Kapus in the list of BCs and providing them reservation. “Don’t get carried away with the misinformation campaign by those driving a wedge between different cases to derive a political mileage.

Mr. Chandrababu Naidu gave away cheques amounting to Rs. 260 crore to beneficiaries of various schemes offered by A.P Backward Classes Cooperative Finance Corporation Ltd.
