‘Foundation for AIIMS will be laid soon’

The foundation stone for the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) would be laid soon, Health Minister Kaqmineni Srinivas quoted Health Minister Union of Minister of Health J.P. Nadda as saying on Saturday, adding that the date would be finalised after discussing the issue with Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and Union Minister of Urban Development M. Venkaiah Naidu.

The Minister said that apart from the AIIMS, several other issues like increasing MBBS seats in the State were also discussed with Mr. Nadda and AYUSH Minister Shripad Ashok Naik in New Delhi on Friday and Saturday.

An appeal was made to the Centre to sanction Rs.120 crore for establishing a State Cancer Institute at Chinna Kakani in Guntur district.

Permission was also sought for setting up a Level-1 Trauma Care Centre in Nellore district and Regional Virology Lab in Guntur district.
