Inequality dangerous, says Yanamala

The State government is focussing on improving per capita income (PCI) in rural areas with a view to achieving equitable welfare and development, said Finance Minister Yanamala Ramakrishnudu.

Addressing the Chief Planning Officers (CPOs) meeting here on Tuesday, the Minister said that inequitable development was more dangerous than poverty.

It leads to socio-economic disparities, which further result in conflicts in society. The phenomenon could be avoided, and socio-economic disparities could be reduced only if there was equitable development, he said.

Double-digit growth

The rural economy would grow considerably if the PCI showed an upward trend. The State, being an agri-based economy, should focus on agri and allied sectors and their sub-sectors. As agriculture had registered a double-digit growth, it helped in achieving overall double-digit growth. It was the only State in the country which registered double-digit growth consistently in the last four years, the Minister said.
