Flyover work yet to pick up pace

Officials say the challenging parts of the structure are taking time

Construction works of Kanakadurga flyover under way in Vijayawada on Monday.

Despite the deadline for the completion of the Kanaka Durga flyover being extended from time to time, the work on the 2.7-km structure has not picked up the desired pace yet, it appears.

After several deadlines passed by owing to various reasons since 2016, Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu set January 31, 2019 as the final date two months ago for the contractors and R&B department.

More than 70% of the core work including the launching of spans, casting wings, spines, piers and abutments has been completed. But, the remaining work is going at a slow pace.

“Casting of extended piers and erection of wings are the two critical activities lagging because of the complex course of the flyover. Also, six of the 47 piers are yet to be raised and the rest of the work is mostly completed,” R&B superintending engineer and in-charge of the project G. John Moshae told

The Hindu .

“So far 30 spans including three in the river, four in the canal and rest on road have been launched and spines were erected. Within the next five days, erection of spines near the Masjid will begin,” he added. He said casting of 88% of spines and 78% of wings had been completed so far.
