Five held in Vijayawada kidnap case

The Vijayawada police on Friday arrested five persons on the charge of kidnapping a doctor and extorting ransom for his release a couple of years ago. Three of the accused were former naxalites of Praja Pratighatana Group (PPG) and a few more from the gang are absconding. The incident occurred in October 2010. But the victim who feared a threat to his life from the accused lodged a complaint with the Nunna police on October 14, 2012, who took up investigation.

The arrested include Munta Anjana Siddhartha, Enugula Raklesh alias Odelu and Uppunutala Muttaiah alias Azad, natives of Khammam district and former naxals of PPG. Two others -- Panduga Parasuram and Korripolu Srikanth alias Chary -- of the same district were also arrested.

The police pressed special teams into service to arrest the main accused in the case, Yaraka Reddy Srinivasa Reddy, Muralikrishna Reddy and a few others involved in the kidnap.

Odelu was the former PPG dalam commander of Warangal and Khammam districts, Muttaiah was the former deputy dalam commander and Siddhartha worked as a dalam member.
