Fire mishap in Delta Sugars in Krishna District

Fire tenders from different places in Krishna district rushed to the factory. We are investigating on electric short circuit, negligence and other angles to know the reasons for the accident, said DFO.

In a major fire mishap in Delta Sugars Limited, bagasse stocks worth some lakhs of rupees were destroyed. However, no casualties were reported.

According to A.P. State Disaster Response and Fire Services Department authorities, the sugar factory located at Seri Narasannapalem village, in Krishna district reported fire incident on Monday morning. Bagasse stocks (pulp that comes out of the machine after sugarcane was crushed) was gutted in flames.

Krishna District Fire Officer (DFO) D. Niranjan Reddy said that fire spread to some heaps of bagasse on the factory premises. On receiving information, six fire tenders were rushed to the spot and efforts are on to extinguish flames, he said.

Fire engines rushed

“About sixty stacks of begasse pulp, which is also used in paper industry, was kept in the factory. Fire personnel were taking steps to prevent the spread of flames to the other bagasse heaps,” said the DFO, who was supervising the operation at the spot.

Fire tenders from Gannavaram, Gudivada, Hanuman Junction, Kaikaluru, Nuzvid and Eluru were deployed to put off flames. Additional DFO Srinivas and a team of Station Fire Officers were monitoring the operation. The cause of fire was not known, said Mr. Reddy.

“The Fire Control Room staff received information on the mishap at around 12.40 p.m. and the firemen were battling to extinguish flames for the last four hours. We are investigating on electric short circuit, negligence and other angles to know the reasons for the accident.” the DFO added.
