Fervour marks ‘Guru purnima'

Various colleges and institutions organised Guru purnima celebrations in the city on Friday by conducting meetings and conferences to mark the birth anniversary of Vyasa Maharshi.

At a meeting held at Nalanda Degree College, litterateur Pingali Venkata Krishna Rao said the teacher had even greater role to play in moulding the personalities and careers of students in modern day society in view of various outside influences in a stronger measure. Mahathi Sankar and principal M. Anuradha spoke.

The Manav Uttham Sewa Samithi organised the celebrations on its Bhavanipuram premises and they conducted various programmes to mark the occasion. Spiritual discourses were given on scriptures highlighting the greatness of the Guru. The speakers said that the Guru was an epitome of grace and was all merciful, who would liberate everyone from bondage. Sri Brahmachari Bavaji Mutt, under the Endowments Department, at Canal Road organised special programmes to felicitate Gurus and also organised free meal programmes on the occasion.

Special puja was performed to the Gurus who were present on the Mutt premises. Vedic scholars were honoured and prasadam was distributed to the devotees.

Machavaram Dasanjaneya Swamy EO Yaddanapudi Sivaramaiah Naidu and Satram EO B. Subba Reddy were present on the occasion.
