Fake gold coins seized, five held

Fake gold coins seized by the Nunna police in Vijayawada on Friday.

The police have arrested five persons on the charge of attempting to sell fake gold coins to a person. They seized 50 coins and a car from the accused.

V. Raju, Sk. Gumshavali, Sk. Madhar Hussain, M. Nagaraju, and car driver P. Maruti were charged with making a vain bid to sell fake coins to a student Suranjan for Rs. 6 lakh. Stating this to newsmen here on Friday, Nunna Circle Inspector K. Nageswara Rao said Suranjan, a postgraduate student of Hyderabad, decided to purchase gold for his brother’s marriage.

One of the accused Raju contacted Suranjan through a persons by name Srinivas of Warangal and promised to arrange the yellow metal at a lesser price. Later, Raju met Gumshavali and Hussain of Khammam district, and the trio planned to deceive the student. They spoke to Nagaraju of Rajahmundry and asked him to arrange fake gold coins. Nagaraju prepared the coins at Nallamandu Veedhi in Rajahmundry and asked the other members to meet him with cash near Paipula Road centre in Vijayawada.

On a tip-off, the police team led by Mr. Nageswara Rao laid a trap and arrested the accused, including the car driver, and produced them before the media.

Raju, Gumshavali, and Hussain were old offenders and cases were pending against them in Bhadrachalam and Sattupalli police stations in Khammam district, the CI said.
