Elections to the Pendyala gram panchayat in Kanchikacherla mandal have been cancelled after people of the village boycotted the election process by not filing nominations to register their protest against reserving of the village for SCs. The villagers contended that the gram panchayat should have been reserved for BCs, but it was reserved for SCs after the enumeration of SC migrant labourers who subsequently left. The district administration however cancelled the elections taking into consideration the protests of the village.
The accepting of nominations for the elections came to a close at 5 p.m. on Saturday.
In all 27,331 polling personnel will conduct elections to 968 gram panchayats in Krishna district.

While the figure of presiding officers was 11,166, the number of other polling persons that would be involved was 16,165.
The total number of candidates that have filed papers for sarpanch and ward member posts was still be collated. According to the figures available 1,358 candidates filed nominations for sarpanch posts in gram panchayat of 13 mandals in Vijayawada Revenue Division. The number of nominations received for ward member posts in 13 mandals was 8,705.
The figure of nominations filed for gram panchayats and ward members in Mylavaram mandal was not available late into the evening because of inordinate delay in finalising the number of nominations filed for the Pulluru gram panchayat which was going to polls after a gap of two term.

No elections could be held in the village because of a court dispute which was recently resolved.
