Students appearing for Eamcet at different centres in the city are worried a lot over reaching the exam centres in time, in view of the ongoing RTC strike, even as the administration has made alternate arrangements such as pooling in 4,300 private school and college buses for the purpose.
In all, 40,699 candidates are appearing for EAMCET in 81 centres in the city. With Eamcet officials not permitting time relaxation for arriving at the centres, many parents have booked cabs for comfortable transportation of their wards.
“We can’t take chances. Either we will have to depend on personal transportation or book cabs,” said Ramamohan Rao, a parent. Accordingly, cab operators admitted that bookings have increased for Friday.

Taking advantage of this, a few operators have also increased the charges. Usually, operators charge Rs.1,000 for hiring a cab for eight hours or 80 km, it is now increased to Rs.1,150 to Rs.1,200, says P. Durga Prasad, a cab operator.
Meanwhile, Krishna Collector Babu A. said alternate arrangements had been made for convenience of students. He said 261 RTC buses would be operated on different routes in addition to 235 hired buses. Already, 2,500 experienced drivers had been selected to operate more buses, said Mr. Babu.
City Police Commissioner A.B.Venkateswara Rao said foolproof security arrangements have been made to avoid untoward incidents and traffic jams in the city.
