Dogbite: probe begins into boy’s death

The west zone police have begun inquiry into the death of a five-year-old boy, K. Ranga Reddy, who was attacked by a pack of stray dogs at Bhavanipuram in the city on Monday.

The boy, son of K. Papi Reddy and Adilakshmi, was a resident of Akula Rajeswara Rao street.

The dogs mauled the child when he came out after having dinner. The victim suffered dogbites at many places and the dogs left the boy only after the locals chased them away.

The police sent the body for post-mortem examination on Tuesday and began a probe into the cause of the death.

Speaking to The Hindu , West Zone Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) T. Hari Krishna said a case under Section.174 CrPc (Suspicious Death) was registered over Ranga Reddy’s death.

“It was an unnatural death. According to the locals, the boy was bitten by a pack of dogs, which led to death. We are trying to ascertain the cause of the death and are waiting for the post-mortem report.

No complaint

"Though nobody lodged a complaint, we booked a case based on the gravity of the incident,” said the ACP.
