Sunday was a memorable day for many police personnel and their children who secured good ranks/grades in the Intermediate and SSC examinations.

Commissioner of Police N. Madhusudhan Reddy and district Collector Jyoti Buddha Prakash felicitated the students and their parents.

The city police arranged the programme called ‘Pratibha Puraskarams’ for children of police families who excelled in the Intermediate and SSC examinations during the year 2011-12 at Tummalapalli Kala Kshetram in the city on Sunday.

Collector Buddha Prakash, in charge Joint Collector M. Janaki and her spouse and Guntur district Joint Collector Yuva Raj, and Deputy Commissioner of Police M. Ravindranath Babu presented cash awards to 46 toppers and felicitated their parents.

“You are lucky that you have good parents who are taking care of your childhood and education. Scores of children are suffering without proper care, food, and education deprived of parents’ love and affection,” said the Collector. He advised them to study well and bring reputation to their parents, society, and the country.

The officers interacted with the parents and asked them to encourage their wards in whatever field he/she showed interest in. The ‘Pratibha Puraskar’ programme would be an inspiration for children pursuing SSC and Intermediate courses, they said.

“Poverty is not a hurdle for education. All the three IAS officers (the Collector and the two Joint Collectors) and myself came from a rural background and middle class families. You should work hard and try to fulfil the dreams of your parents,” said Mr. Madhusudhan Reddy.
