Doctors say death is due to complications

Manohar, father of infant who died in Old GGH, at the hospital premises in Vijayawada on Tuesday.

Tension prevailed at the Old Government Hospital here on Tuesday after a family staged a protest against the doctors alleging that their infant died owing to negligence.

According to the police, a two-day-old baby girl of P. Durga Bhavani and Manohar of Kandrika village died on Tuesday morning due to Meconium aspiration syndrome.

The infant born on May 7 was undergoing treatment in the Sick Newborn Care Unit at the government hospital.

Following the death of the infant, Mr. Manohar along with family members staged protests on the hospital premises and alleged negligence of the doctors and hospital staff.

Joint Collector-2 P. Babu Rao visited the hospital and inquired the resident medical officer and paediatricians on the cause of the death.

Doctors, who treated the infants, denied the allegations and said that the death was due to complications.

ACP (South) K. Srinivasa Rao said that no complaint was lodged by the parents. The body was preserved in the new GGH mortuary.

Another death

On the other hand, another 15-day-old baby who was admitted to the hospital died in the early hours of Tuesday.

Doctors said that infant was admitted with high risk on May 5 and the parents were informed about the poor chances of survival.
